My research pieces and collaborations

I have been researching artistic practices since 2015. Particularly I am interested in the material, social and political conditions affecting cultural production and artists' livelihoods in the UK and internationally.
This page includes a selection of my writings so far and ongoing projects.

'IN DENIAL'. ARTISTS IN THE UK CREATIVE ECONOMY: A FOCUS ON ARTIST-LED BUSINESSES.

Featuring in the newly published edited volume Global Creative Ecologies, my chapter reflects on the challenges of sustaining a visual arts practice in the context of the UK arts and cultural sector and creative economy, and rethinks paradigms for cultural production through the case study of Company Drinks - an artist-led business set up in London as a Community Interest Company. Please get in touch for a copy of my chapter.

THE NAME OF THE NEXT SONG

In 2015 I founded The Name of the Next Song, an international platform for artists and researchers in urban and rural areas around the world and with a focus on the social, material and political conditions that inform cultural production in contemporary times. The platform presents dialogues, writings and visuals, welcoming contributions from many different voices and perspectives. Check it out here.

Please get in touch if you’re interested in collaborating. Logo by Chya Hsu.

BUSINESS RESILIENCE
& VISUAL ART

What factors increase business resilience for visual arts freelancers?

A research commissioned by SPACE in 2020 (pre-Covid 19) and in collaboration with Dr Tarek Virani, which analysed the correlation between specific business-related practices and the resilience of visual artists in London as demarcated by their turnover. Full report available here.

ARTISTS AS ENTREPRENEURS

'Artists as entrepreneurs' is an opinion piece that I wrote in 2019 about artists and the UK economy which was featured in the publication Pivotal Moments
The article draws reflections from the experience of London Creative Creative Network, SPACE's flagship artist support programme funded by ERDF (European Regional Development Fund).
